Kitchen renovation....

Last summer while I was watching the Swedish wedding at a friends place I got a MMS from Jakob with a picture of some cubboards for the kitchen. We had long lacked some storage and finally gave in to getting some. I came home to a construction site but by Sunday evening, the kitchen was finnish. Efficiency is something I like:). Good we have such similar taste that I can trust Jakob will pick out a kitchen that suits my taste too, no need to go check out all the millions of kitchen shops either...

One last thing, the window needed a curtain as the morning sun shined directly into my eye while I was having my morning coffee. Once again, the selection I found on the market was so boring and commercial and all the ones I liked costed a fortune. I had a plain white folding curtain hanging in the bedroom so I copied from that, bought some retro Kaivo fabric in my favorite color red from the local Marimekko, wooden sticks and loop hooks from the local Silvan. It was a one morning project during my summer vacation 2010 while I was training my domestic goddess skills:)

This is where it all started...

A few years ago I managed to get my hand on a very popular hat from Noa Noa. They were always sold out. It was really my all time favorite. Then I went and lost it!!! Panic! Last year I was in a store in Fisketorvet and there was one left, the grey one on the right. I thought 299 DKK was a bit much for a hat but since I really loved it, I bought it. After looking at it a bit more carefully, it didn't look like it would be too hard to make one myself. So I went down to the fabric shop and bought some fabric. Result was that all my female family and friends got hats in all sorts of colors for Xmas in 2010. My best reward was from my friend Gitte, she called me and asked me where I had bought the hat from as some of her friends had really liked it too. And now I don't feel like making anymore hats..

Maternity leave, oh so much time but oh what to do....

Almost a year time to stay at home with my dear little guldklump! Joy, my first thought: how will I manage to pass time and feel useful and productive. Well he sleeps a lot and there is only so much you can stimulate a baby and I really dont want him to end up an ADHD case from over stimulating, so what to do with the rest of my time when not running or rowing....

I don't have a TV so I can't follow what goes on with Brooke and Ridge. I'm sure they are still trying to "find each other". What I'm saying is that I really have a need to do something productive. I don't thrive from tidying up the house and being a housefrau, my work is creative so at the end of the day, I want to be able to say: "look, this is what I made today!"

Anyway, I've taken up an old hobby: sewing. Last year, I got an old machine from Jakob's grandmother. It is very old, has backward and forward stitch as well as zig zag. It was very squeeky and noisy so Jakob took it a part, gave it some oil and now it works fine.

I've created this blog for myself to keep track of all the projects I've done during my year training to be a domestic goddess/perfect mother and share them with those who might be interested or inspired.

I myself find inspiration for what to make from blogs and stuff around me. I enjoying making stuff for Christian, for our home, the other kids and myself, stuff that has some use, not only looks good. We really have no place for anything that does not have a purpose. I'd rather have stuff that looks like me and made by me than stuff from the shop. I use alot of fabriks from Finland as I like being reminded of my roots. Still I prefer not to look like a Marimekko spokesmodel... So no more Unikko flower print....
